Best of Greenhouse Studio 2021

2021 was quite a year in so many ways. This was my second year of getting to look back and see what made the list of most popular posts with readers. Some surprise me and some don’t, which is part of what makes this post fun while also giving me ideas of what to focus on for next year.

As many of you know, I started a second site late last summer called Scaled Up Studio, so I want to be extra certain that what I produce for Greenhouse Studio is what you all most want to see, and this little end of the year ritual helps. As always, if you have suggestions, drop me a comment below.

Without further adieu, take a look at the Greenhouse Studio 2021 countdown of the most popular design inspiration, houseplants, and DIY projects.

10 | Natural Home Décor Styling

If any post shows “my style” this is it. I really tried to pack a lot of ideas into this post about creating a neutral and natural look in your home. It doesn’t have to be live, real, or green (plants) - there are lots of ways of going about getting this look without having to water anything.

9 | Styling With African Beads

This is a post I really enjoyed writing. It was fun going back and looking through pictures from a trip to Morocco, styling my living room and then snapping photos.

This post only came out at the end of October but it was ranking well with the Google gods within a few weeks. I’m curious to see what more comes from this décor trend. If you want some fresh design inspiration for spring, then check it out.

8 | Nature-Inspired Home Office Reveal

My home office was my indoor pandemic project. (My outdoor project was my Garden Redesign.) I love the way my home-office-remodel-on-a-shoestring-budget turned out. I’m not gonna lie though, doing this post kind of drove me crazy. Let’s just say the camera and I were not getting along, but of course, I learned some things along the way.

7 | How To Waterproof Your Plant Pots

My “technique” for watering proofing the bottoms of my plant pots is one of those random “Tina-isms” as my sister might say, that I came up with a whole lotta years ago. But you know what, it works.

Try it and never leave a water ring on your favorite wood table again. Prefer video? Here’s the YouTube link.

6 | Caring For Monstera [Soil, Watering, Repotting, Fertilizing]

Calling all Monstera fans! (and who isn’t one?) This post is a top to bottom care guide for Monstera deliciosa.

I also cover how to tell them apart from Split Leaf Philodendrons and those fascinating fenestrated leaves that have both juvenile and mature forms.

The video goes over Monstera repotting when I finally give my Trader Joe’s Monstera a new home.

5 | Black and White Bathroom Mood Board

I loves me a classic black and white bathroom! Check out my mood board for my future hall bath project featuring beautiful black and white tile, cabinetry, and trim along with sexy metal fixtures. (Is it weird to want to do every bath in the house this way? I’m calling it “cohesive design!”)

4 | Travertine Furniture & Accessories - 80s Trend Reinvented

As much as I love black and white bathrooms, I may love stone furniture even more. Travertine and other natural stone is a great material because of it’s durability and neutral, natural appearance (no competing wood tones). It was really popular during the 80s and now it’s back. Check out the post and see what the trendy fuss is about.

3 | Mediterranean Landscape Design Mood Board

Are my feelings hurt a tiny bit that my Mediterranean garden design mood board outranks my actual landscape design reveal? Ha. This post’s popularity is mostly because of Pinterest traffic, which was totally unanticipated. Collecting all of those pretty images was not a chore. Take a look and get some California landscape design inspiration for your own garden.

2 | Dark Green Kitchens

This post was another that surprised me, but it seems dark green kitchens have cast their spell on lots of us. Check back on this one too since I’m about to update it with some new gorgeous green images.

1 | Fiddle Leaf Fig Repotting

By far this was the most popular post. Y’all can’t get enough of your FLFs! Check out the post and YouTube video on how I repotted Mrs. Figg, my fiddle leaf that in no time went from small juvenile to gangly, lurking in the corner 8’ sapling (a lot like my 3 boys). She needed a new home in a big way and I documented all of it for you.

So that’s a wrap and we’ve already put our toe in 2022. What are your plans and projects for the new year? Leave me a comment below and let me know.
